Our Summer Groove Camp is a full-week immersive program for young musicians who want the energy of a serious summer music camp while staying rooted in funk, go-go, pocket, ensemble playing, and Black musical traditions. Students rehearse in combos, study groove vocabulary, build stage presence, and perform original and arranged music by the end of the week.
Campers are grouped by age and experience for coached small ensembles focused on timing, listening, chart reading, improvisation, and live performance habits.
Students dig into pocket, syncopation, call-and-response, percussion layering, bass lines, keyboard parts, and the cultural history behind the music.
Each camp week ends with a community performance where students present polished ensemble sets, collaborative originals, and featured solo moments.
This program is ideal for students who want a summer experience that feels rigorous, joyful, and performance-driven without losing the community-centered spirit of funk and go-go.
